WSFIDA

Williamstown Seagulls FIDA Football Club is a football club which was set up in 2011 to provide sporting opportunities for people with Intellectual Disabilities in the Inner Western suburbs of Melbourne. Williamstown Seagulls FIDA Football Club is a member of the Football Integration Development Association. (F.I.D.A. is a football competition for people who attend special schools or have an Intellectual Disability.)

The football club was been established in conjunction with the support umbrella of Football Williamstown, and is assisted by Williamstown CYMS Football Club and Williamstown Superules Football Club. Williamstown Seagulls has 2 teams, a Senior team and a Reserves team, so even young or low-functioning players are able to participate safely at an appropriate level. Most of our players are aged between 14 and 35, and many are students or ex-students of Rosamond Special School.

Practice Match

The Williamstown Seagulls held their pre-season Practice Match against Rupertswood
FIDA Football Club at the Fearon Reserve in Williamstown on Sunday. In fine but windy
conditions, the Seagulls Reserves had a great hit-out against Rupo, who had to wear a clash strip
because of their identical colours. The Seagulls had 6 players playing their first game of football
ever, so it was very exciting for parents and friends to see so many new recruits in the famous
Willy colours. Debutants included Tim Gakovic, Brandon Micallef, Shenae Parkins, Jake Tomasic,
Alexander Wardell, and Georgia Wardell, from the disbanded Youth Girls’ Team. Kicking with the
breeze in the first quarter, the Seagulls went forward repeatedly, but were unable to put a score
on the board. Rupo, with a couple of Seagulls players helping out to make up their numbers,
scored a couple of goals in the first quarter, but resolute defence from the Seagulls kept the
Sunbury team to a single major in the second quarter. At half time, although scoreless, the
Seagulls had acquitted themselves admirably. With some assistance from a couple of Senior
players, the Willy side had their best quarter after the long break, outscoring Rupo by 2 goals 6
points to 1 goal 2 points. Inaccurate kicking was costly. Goal kickers were Taz Toussaint and
Laurie Pollard. Rupo kicked with a howling gale in the last quarter, and piled on 4 goals, but to
their credit, the Seagulls stuck to the task and threatened to score into the wind on a number of
occasions. The contest was so successful that it has already been proposed that it becomes an
annual pre-season event.
